Wadi Sho’eva

Michael Peach

Despite the ATVs and motorbikes
That shake my fragile balance and peace of mind,
I’ll not forgo the life-preserving hikes
Until by A.L.S. I am confined.
For nothing can more energy create
In me, who’s feeling old and very frail,
Than seeing Nature in its primal state:
Providing thus a kind of psychic bail.
Apart from the sewer and the man-made tracks,
Such is the wooded wadi near my home;
It has what a sprawling town or city lacks:
Sufficient space to let wild creatures roam.
++Unlike those drivers, a buzzard or gazelle
++Directs my thoughts to heaven, not to hell.
